Theft Alert

 

 

The Association has distributed the following theft alert from the Community Patrol today (May 17):

 

The Henderson Police Department has alerted us to the recent theft of air conditioning units outside of houses in the Coventry area at the base of the Anthem hillside. The houses affected have mostly been vacant, with posted "For Sale" signs on them, or with overgrown landscaping, and/or foreclosure or "short sale" notifications posted on the premises.

Please be alert to this type of activity, especially around vacant houses. If you see something suspicious or out of the ordinary occurring at a neighbor's house, try to contact them to get information. Or call 311, the Henderson non-emergency hot line, and report the activity. Be ready to provide information, such as vehicle color, license plate number, description of the suspicious individuals, the activity observed, etc.

Breaking News: Computer Virus Alert

A number of Sun City Anthem residents have been receiving an e-mail message titled BRUTAL EXPERIENCE!!!.

This message is being automatically generated using the e-mail addresses of at least one SCA resident whose computer was either hacked into or infected by a computer virus which gathered the names and addresses in the victim’s e-mail address book and then sent the message to those names and addresses.

Reading of the message does not automatically mean that your own computer would be hijacked in the same manner, but the most prudent course of action would be to simply delete any message containing the words “Brutal Experience” that you may find in your e-mail inbox.

Editor’s Note: Technically, this is not an “alert” from the SCA Security Patrol Chief, but is more in the nature of information.

Hi All,  The Patrol has been actively organizing the community Neighborhood Watch (NHW) program in SCA for the last year and a half.

The following will demonstrate the importance of this program.

On 5/13 at approximately 2:15 in the morning, an alert Neighborhood Watch participant saw something that just didn't look right: a pickup truck that was out of character for our community and an occupant getting out of the truck with no dome lights on. He called Henderson Police, which NHW participants are trained to do. The result was the driver was arrested after being assisted by a K-9 unit. He was preparing to commit some burglaries. It is not known if this person has committed burglaries in the past but he won't be doing any in the near future.

There will be a NHW meeting for Desert Sky South on June 2nd at 6PM in the Arlington/Bristol room in the Anthem Center. Anyone is welcome to attend and learn about this valuable program.

Security Alert – May 8, 2010

The following incident was reported to the Security Patrol by a Patrol member who is also a neighborhood watch coordinator.

Additional information. The BMW HPD was looking for had California plates.

I just left the Police who responded to an attempted break-in on Fieldbrook around 12 noon, today.

The perpetrator knocked at the door, after getting no response, the perp  used a grinding tool, which broke the glass on the entry door. The resident heard the breaking glass and screamed, called 911. The resident saw nothing when she ran into the street.

The police response was immediate because
the police were  at 7 Hills responding to a break-in. The perps at 7 Hills were in
a black or dark blue  BMW, with 2-3 people in vehicle. One had dreadlocks.

These may be isolated incidents, but we must remember to be alert.

A note from the Neighborhood Watch Police: If you are home when some unknown
person rings your bell or knocks at your door, call out to let them know that someone is home, BUT DO NOT open the door. (Most of the time these people are checking to see if no one is home.) You might say: "No solicitors are allowed in our community and I have called the police." Then call
the police to give any description you can give.

To my readers: I have created a new article category titled Security Alerts. Usually, when a security alert is issued for the community, the issues described in the alert are not problems that go away overnight. PLEASE READ AND PASS ON TO YOUR NEIGHBORS.  THIS PERSON HAS A REMOTE AND CAN OPEN YOUR GARAGE DOOR IF THE LOCK OUT IS NOT ON.  THERE IS A LOCK-OUT ON THE GARAGE DOOR PAD AND SHOULD BE USED WHEN YOU ARE GONE FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME AND OVERNIGHT.

On 2/18 and 2/19 2 incidents were reported to the Security Patrol. Both incidents involved thefts from vehicles that were parked in closed garages at night. No attempt was made to enter the residence. There was a report of a small older RED passenger car in the area. Please be on the lookout for a vehicle with this description and try to get a plate number. Do not attempt to confront any occupants of  this vehicle, just do your best to get a plate number. If you should observe this vehicle please contact HPD Officer Carlos Chorens at 267-1001 Ext 871449, and the Security Patrol at 614-6751.
