It is with great sadness that I share with my readers news of the unexpected death of Sun City Anthem Resident Sandra “Sandi” Wayne, beloved wife of Walt Wayne. Sandi was 71 years old, and she and Walt had been married 49 years.
With little advance warning, Sandi passed away in Henderson from what was diagnosed as viral flu.
Sandi was born September 29, 1940, in Kiester, Minnesota, and was a 42-year resident of Minnetonka in that state. She retired from the banking business in 1993, and when Sun City Anthem was launched she and Walt began spending their winters here and their summers in Minnetonka.
In addition to her husband and best friend Walt, she is survived by her brother Gary and his wife, Merrilee Johnson.
Twice a cancer survivor, Sandi enjoyed physical sports and was an optimistic Minnesota Gophers football fan. She lived life as a positive person, with an infectious zest for life that made people instantly like her. She will be deeply missed by the many friends and relatives who felt her love and radiance.
In Sun City Anthem, Sandi’s activities included the Performing Arts Club, Women’s Club, and the Red Hats. She and Walt were also well-known at our Fitness Center, working out three times a week when they were in residence.
Sandi’s funeral service will be held in Minneapolis this Saturday, February 11.
If you are inclined to make a donation in Sandi’s honor, please consider one of her favorite charities: University of Minnesota Cancer Research Center; Ronald McDonald House; Humane Society; Children’s Home Society of St. Paul.
One of Sandi's best qualities was that she had the ability to make someone feel better about themselves when they were around her. I only wish I could be more like she was.

Sandi and Walt have been dear friends of ours since 1980. We enjoyed many fabulous times together. Our grief over Sandi's passing is profound. We miss her.
