Sun City Anthem Board of Directors President Jim Long has issued the following statement:
Facilitators needed. Our association is seeking several volunteers to facilitate meetings in connection with our new strategic planning process. These volunteers should have training and experience in facilitating meetings. An understanding of strategic planning would be helpful. A trainer from RMI’s headquarters will conduct a one hour training session for these volunteers starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6th in the Delaware Room in Anthem Center. The focus of this meeting will be the special characteristics of strategic planning by a group of volunteers and the facilitator techniques best adapted to this type of meeting. Facilitators will then be matched up with our standing committees and the other groups included in our strategic planning process.

Take a good look at this photo:
Among those who come from Massachusetts, this is known as a Boston Roast Beef Sandwich. It consists of thinly cut, medium-rare roast beef, piled on a soft bun, and doused with a thin, vinegar-based BBQ sauce.
This is the signature menu item at Kelly’s Roast Beef, known in the Boston area for this sandwich, which it serves up more than a million times a year.
OK, we’re in Henderson, so what does this have to do with us? Well, who among us, no matter what part of the country we come from, doesn’t long for the opportunity to enjoy some of our favorite dishes from “back home?”
For the benefit of transplanted New Englanders, as well as those willing to try something new, I’ve previously written about the scrumptious whole-belly fried clams offered at Not Your Average Deli, a little place on West Sunset owned by a Sun City Anthem couple who come from New Bedford, MA.
Now we have the wonderfully authentic East Coast Eats, opened just a few weeks ago by three buddies from Massachusetts’ North Shore, just above Boston.
Though partners Greg, Dave and Spero are still settling in, East Coast Eats has already garnered rave comments from Internet contributors and thumbs-up reviews from restaurant critics, most recently Max Jacobson in the free weekly Seven Magazine.
This place is certainly easy to get to. As you turn into the drive for Kohl’s on Valle Verde, you’ll see it in a row of shops on the immediate left.
It’s a small place in which you order at a counter for dine-in or take-out. There are flat-panel TVs to follow the Boston sports teams, and the Boston vibe is enhanced by framed, autographed team jerseys on the walls.
For a small place, East Coast Eats surprises with a menu that is larger than you’ll find at many traditional restaurants. It features a selection of appetizers that include tater tot cheese fries and some of the best homemade onion rings in the area; a variety of salads with 8 different dressings to choose from; about 20 varieties of subs or wraps; burgers; chicken cutlet sandwiches; vegetarian dishes; quesadillas; about 15 pasta choices; pizzas and calzones; and now they are adding seafood, including fried scallops, fish & chips, whole-belly clams, etc.
Most of the menu can be viewed here.
The title of this article says “It’s The Bomb!” That’s because East Coast Eats’ signature item, along with the fabulous roast beef sandwich, is its Boston-style steak bomb (below), which most of us would probably call a cheese steak sub.
A Boston-style steak bomb is done differently than what you may be used to. A generous amount of thinly sliced steak cooked on the griddle is mixed with onions, roasted green peppers, mushrooms and American cheese. Both the steak bomb and the roast beef sandwich must be tasted for you to know that you’re into something really good.
Four sizes of the roast beef sandwich start at $4.29, and the basic steak bomb, enough to share, especially if you include the recommended onion rings ($3.99), is only $7.99.
East Coast Eats is the real thing transplanted to Nevada. If you came here from New England, it’s a bit of heaven. If not, give it a try and see what you were missing all those years you lived somewhere else.
Hours of operation: Sunday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; Friday & Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
When you visit East Coast Eats, remind Greg or Dave that SCA residents are promised a 10-percent discount if they mention reading about it on David Berman’s blog.

I learned today (June 24) that Rich Hogan, who was managing Anthem View Restaurant, is no longer affiliated with the restaurant in any capacity.
Hogan’s daughter, who was assisting with restaurant management, and Juan, the head chef, are out also.
No other personnel changes have been made as of now.
Fred Slark, who is in the process of negotiating to become owner of TNF, the restaurant tenant, said the restaurant remains open and that all special events are being conducted as scheduled.

A friend of mine who reads my blog and the Goodman/Arendt message Board asked if I am going to respond to the baiting over there on the subject of a scheduled administrative hearing –not an indictment- involving an action of a Board of Directors majority several years ago to change certain provisions of our governing documents, without a vote of the residents, in order to bring the documents into compliance with changes the State Legislature made in the HOA governing statute, NRS 116.
While the Goodman/Arendt crew suggest that I have not recently reported on the subject because it does not favor my interest to do so, I think most of my readers know me better than that.
When the hearing takes place and an outcome is known, I will report completely and accurately on what transpired, regardless of whether the result pleases or displeases me.
I think my readers understand that they can count on me to give them the full story, separating factual reporting from personal opinion, and clearly delineating the difference if necessary.

Readers: On the left sidebar of the blog you will find a new poll, which will be up for the next 10 days or so.
A task force working under the auspices of the Communications Committee will be developing public relations initiatives for our community. As part of the group’s research, they want to know whether social networking sites, specifically the wildly popular Facebook, should be considered as a way for the Association to communicate with our residents and for our residents to communicate with each other about Sun City Anthem subjects.
To facilitate the information-gathering process, I urge you to take the poll. The results may play a big role in deciding whether, and how, to improve communications through the use of social networking.
